Dr. Jonathan L. Gleason serves as Executive Vice President and James D. and Mary Jo Danella Chief Quality Officer for Jefferson Health.  Reporting to the president of Jefferson Health, Dr. Gleason is the inaugural chief quality executive of the 14-hospital system, with responsibilities for quality, patient safety, value-based care, patient experience, clinical risk management and population health management.  Dr. Gleason is the chief architect for the OnPoint Program for advancing care excellence across Jefferson Health.  Dr. Gleason also developed a global partnership with Aramark to design and commercialize the EverSafeOSô operating system as a comprehensive tool for workforce, environmental and food safety.    

Prior to Jefferson Health, Dr. Gleason served as Chief Quality Officer at Carilion Clinic, where he founded and led the Department of Clinical Advancement and Patient Safety (CAPS).  Carilion Clinic is a renowned clinically integrated health system covering one-third of the Commonwealth of Virginia, with seven hospitals and more than 1,000 providers.  As chief quality officer, his responsibilities included quality, patient safety, clinical risk management, process improvement, translational human factors, and patient advocacy for the Carilion Clinic Health System.  Under his leadership, Carilion Clinic achieved sustained reductions in serious safety events, patient harm, and overall improved clinical performance of the health system.  Carilion Clinic climbed in the national rankings and is recognized as one of the most advanced and progressive clinically integrated health systems in the nation. 

Dr. Gleason’s focused interest is in building clinical operating systems that account for human capabilities and limitations to achieve the highest possible outcomes.  He is recognized as a leader in the field of translational human factors engineering.  His work with translational human factors was recognized by the National Quality Form, Next Generation Innovator Award.  

Dr. Gleason completed his education and training at the University of Georgia, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Gleason is boarded in obstetrics and gynecology, and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.  Dr. Gleason serves on numerous boards and national committees related to accountable care, quality, patient safety, translational human factors engineering, professional liability and high value healthcare.
